Jackson had been tense enough, keeping his foot steps light. Never before had he to worry about things like this, being seen, being heard. It’s all new for him. Exciting, exhilarating, but new. Despite his unfamiliarity with truly sneaking around, he managed to keep quiet. Or so he thought. The unfamiliar voice had Jackson whipping around towards it’s source - after a brief jump and startled noise - dropping into a ready stance, staff no longer held casually, lazily at his side, and instead in his hands, pointed straight at Kendrick.

At the King.

A look of conflicting emotions crossed Jackson’s face. This is exactly what he wanted to avoid! Still, taking a deep breath, steadying himself, Jackson did his best to smooth his facial features back into a determined frown, a narrowed eyed gaze. It doesn’t look quite right on his youthful face. The staff doesn’t lower. He doesn’t relax. He doesn’t want to fight! He just wanted to get in and get out. He needed answers, and if this is the only way to receive them… so be it. “I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.” As an after thought, Jackson allowed a quick smile to flicker across his expression. “Your highness.”

What did we have here? Triton couldn’t stop his arms as they crossed in front of his chest, securely locking themselves into a typical disbelieving stance. He’d often use this same routine when he’d discipline his young daughters or talk down to his court; but this kid was hardly a kid, let alone someone who would know when ambiguity was not appreciated in the king’s presence.

“And who might you be?” Kendrick continued, glazing over the topic of highness-es or word play. “I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you aren’t hanging around looking for idle chit chat. Come with me.” Ursula wasn’t the only one with ears around the city, this boy had been seen hanging around a few key members to the ‘good’ side. “Nice staff, kid. I have something almost like that.”

Kendrick stopped just short of the cellar, eyeing Jackson before opening the door and leading him inside. “Privacy.” And something else even he couldn’t discern mumbled as excuse to get out of the general public’s view. Waitresses, patrons, cooks, waiters, the book keeper, they didn’t need to overhear this ‘highness’ business.
